There are two ways that a Canadian Citizen can be deemed a U.S Resident for Tax Purposes:

Green Card Test: If you are lawfully a permanent resident than you are deemed a resident
Substantial Presence Test: If you are present in the U.S at least 31 days in the current year, and
At least 183 days during a 3-year period including the current year and 2 years immediately before that

If any of these two ways applies to you than you are a U.S. Resident.

There are two exceptions should you meet the Substantial Presence Test

Closer Connection Exception: This means that you have more ties to Canada than the U.S. This can be proven by country of residence on forms and the types of official forms and documents you file
Treaty Exemption: This allows the Canadian to be taxed as only a resident. To claim this the Canadian must file a Form 1040NR and Form 8833 which are both due June 15 every year.
